Through the Fire and Flames #MusicMovesMe #Blogboost

Welcome to Day 1 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge and another episode of Music Moves Me, a weekly music blog hop I participate in.

Who are the #MusicMovesMe bloggers? Every other week we have a theme, and on alternate weeks, we can blog about any music we wish.  First, there is XmasDolly, who is returning from surgery and we welcome her back!  Her co-conductors are:  Callie of JAmerican Spice,  and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥   Also, co-conducting  is  Cathy from Curious as a Cathy (who filled in for Xmas Dolly and did a fantastic job.) As Xmas Dolly would say, Applause!

And, (last but not least), there's me.  I'm a young senior blogger living in upstate New York, and I hope you'll stick around for some of my offerings this Rocktober.

October's Honorary Conductor is Michele Truhlik  of  "Angels Bark".  Michele is a dog lover and a living encyclopedia of musical knowledge so this should be exciting.

This week is a freebie week, and I want to start a bit more seriously than I normally do with an inspirational post written by Roy, a deeply religious man whose thoughts the other day touched me greatly. (I have to add that although Roy writes from the Jewish religious experience point of view, you don't have to be Jewish to get the point of his post -only human.   Enjoy!)

The first song I have for you today has much personal signficance and meaning for me right now.  Here is Nothing More - Fade in/Fade Out

This song is long, but it is a favorite of mine.  It has been since my now adult son introduced me to it by playing it on Guitar Hero at least 9,270 times.  I guess it finally sunk in.

DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames, from 2006.  The is the full, uncut version, and I hope it will play everywhere.  It is about seven minutes long. Because this type of music isn't necessarily everyone's fav, you are free to skip through it.   But if you love rock guitar, it's a must, in my humble opinion.

Time - from one of the best selling albums of all time, Dark Side of the Moon - by Pink Floyd.

And finally, I Made it Through the Rain - Barry Manilow.

Day 1 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge #blogboost.  I hope you enjoyed this edition of #MusicMovesMe.

Tomorrow - a food memory.

  1. Alana,

Thanks for sharing Roy's post with me. I enjoyed reading it very much. Your mewsic selections are nice. I, especially like "Fade In/Fade Out" which is new-to-me. Dragonforce is a bit too much for my ears at this early hour. Who am I kidding no time of day would be good for me to hear this. lol A little Barry Manilow to round out today's listening pleasure was a nice treat. "I Made It Through the Rain" is a good tune. Let's hope the rain is gone for awhile. ;)

    1. Alas, Cathy, the rain is not gone. We got a bunch today. Doesn't seem to be anything like a "normal rain" anymore.

    2. Alana,

We didn't get any rain this week. *knock on wood* It's been plenty sunny here which means it's been plenty warm, too. Summer temps linger (upper 80s) still a bit longer right up till the end of the month for us before we our daily highs aren't so horrible. The good thing about this time of year, we do see the evening cool offs earlier in the evening and our mornings are a bit fresh. I'm wearing shorts if that tells you anything. My legs feel just a bit cool but tolerable. It's reading 67º at 7:04am. Change is coming, though.

  2. Hi Alana,
Thanks for this. This is the first I had ever seen a blog hop for music so ended up listening to two bloggers (Stacy's) and yours. I enjoyed them both, especially the remake she posted by her friends with "The Rain Down in Africa" and your Barry Manilow's "I Made It Through the Rain."

  4. Great songs! I have not heard of "Nothing More" - I like it.

As for the others - I have been a big fan of all of them - I have a very diverse collection of music and it includes the rest of these. I am dating myself when I say I have thousands of CDs! LOL (Dark Side of the Moon was first bought on vinyl!)

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I never had thousands of LPs but I still have some of my 45's. And only wish they were still in their dust jackets. So, I'm definitely dating myself!

    1. My son has introduced me to some fascinating music - especially Dream Theater. Music was such a divider for my generation and so thrilled I can talk music with my son (who is in his late 20's).

  9. First- thanks so much for your approbation and including a link to my post. I am truly honored.
I loved that first song. I shared it far and wide. (Reminds me- completely different genre- of Conway Twitty's 'That's my job'.)
And, the only other song I knew was Pink Floyd's. (Yes, I know Manilow, just not that song.)
    Thanks for the great share!

  10. I have to say none of the songs are favs of mine which is odd I usually love at least one or two of your Monday Music selections. Had to reread to make sure I wasn't just having a bad Monday but nope not even Barry does it! I think that is funny so thanks for the laugh!!

  12. That Dragonforce song is one of my favorites! I can barely play it on easy on Guitar Hero but it gets me through a lot of tough runs!

  13. Hi Alana. I'm new to your blog. It's my first time reading about music blogs and I find it interesting. I love music that moves me at different times of the day and different times of the year.
I just rediscovered jazz from Jon Batiste and added to my Spotify playlist some songs from Paul McCartney.
Pink Floyd what an album my husband owned (vinyl) until I made his sell it. I still hear about how he "USED" to own this album or that album.
Thanks for sharing your favorites with us.

  14. Loved all your selections this week - I'm a huge metal fan, but haven't listened to much of it here lately. I'm thinking this is the perfect season to change that. Metal and rock and roll and autumn go so well together.

I'm just making my Music Monday rounds late this week!

  15. Hi Alana,
Wow, I so love Fade In/Fade Out -- that's powerful. Especially recently having lost my Dad. It feels like recently but it's coming up on 2 years now. Doesn't seem like that long ago...
Words of wisdom in that song.
I liked how your son played it 9,270 times! haha I bet it seemed like that.

I'm not familiar with Dragon Force. Was a little hard for me. I did give it a good try though, through 6 minutes of it. I could handle harder music when I was younger but not so much now. Major hair band though for sure!

It was very nice hearing Barry Manilow live. I went to high school with a guy who was a musical genius. He was actually a genius in just about everything and is a major financial guy on Wall Street now; used to have an apartment in Trump Tower, back when Trump was just a regular dirtbag... I have lost touch with him over the years so have no idea what he's up to now but I'm sure he's beyond rich because he was always super smart with money...My Mom always thought we'd end up together, we were such good friends. A lot of my friends thought that too, interestingly...I found out later...

Anyway, thanks for the memory! Barry Manilow is always good for that, huh?

Roy Ackerman's post was fabulous. And the video of Derek Redmond and his Dad made me tear up. That was emotionally powerful. Thanks for sharing Roy's post.

    Have a great weekend,

    Michele at Angels Bark
