Time for Another Tribute #MusicMovesMe

It's Monday, the start of another work week for me, and for all of us, it is time for Music and the weekly gathering of the #MusicMovesMe bloggers.

Who are the #MusicMovesMe bloggers? We are bloggers who blog about music each Monday and if you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only on this music train, please!)   First, there is XmasDolly,   Her co-conductors are:   Stacy of Stacy Uncorked, Cathy of Curious as a Cathy and me.  Callie of JAmerican Spice blogs from time to time.

Our guest conductor for the month of June is none other than our head engineer Xmas Dolly, our soul and inspiration. Our theme for this week is:  Your Pick!  So here's mine.

Singer Leon Redbone passed on to the big Musicians Home in the Sky last week, at the age of 127 (or so he led us to believe).

As today is a "free" week for us who participate in Music Moves Me, it is a perfect time for a tribute

Lazy Bones, a song written by Johnny Mercer with music written by Hoagy Carmichael.  This has been covered so many times, and I remember it well from my childhood in the 50's.  Leon Redbone nailed it.

Another song I remember from my childhood and covered by Leon Redbone was his 1977 cover "Shine On Harvest Moon", a song dating from.  Although an article I read online talked about Redbone changing the lyrics from "I've had no loving since April, January, June or July" to "January, February, June or July", I remember the later lyrics from my childhood.

I wonder if I am remembering the 1961 Rosemary Clooney cover, as my Mom was a huge Rosemary Clooney fan.  The timing would be right.

Speaking of timing....Time waits for no one at all, wrote Justin Heywood in the Moody Blues song "Driftwood".

Finally, as someone who has experienced a flood (actually, three of them), my thoughts have been with the people in Oklahoma and Arkansas.  Years ago, I lived in Northwest Arkansas, and visited some of the places that are now underwater, and in grave danger.  A fellow blogger on the above linkey, Driller AA (who lives in Northwest Arkansas) posted this yesterday, and I invite you to read his thoughts.

When my area of upstate New York flooded in 2011, someone posted a video on You Tube with this song by Led Zeppelin (a cover of a song from 1929 about a tragic flood event on the Mississippi River in 1927) as the soundtrack.  The video was taken down, but the song remains the same.

I reviewed some of my posts from the 2011 flood yesterday.  I continue to have much to be thankful for.  I hope that you, my reader, have been spared.  My flood was so small in comparison to what is happening now, there's no comparison at all.

It's a wrap for this week.  See you again next Monday for more music.

  2. Great selections. Leon Redbone could be a star again today. Everything about him is unique. Rosemary Clooney started her career as a singer for one of the swing bands of 40's before launching her solo career. My parents were fans of her vocals and it's hard to argue with that smooth voice. Have a blessed day.

  3. Good selection and nice tribute to Leon. I can't imagine the flooding happening in so many areas. Like wild fires, where do you go?

  4. RIP Leon Redbone. That was sad news, especially that he died so young, and from dementia! :o

Can't go wrong with The Moody Blues or Led Zeppelin! ☺ Thanks for the music.

  5. It's hard to do a tribute to Leon Redbone without including "Shine On Harvest Moon," isn't it? Thanks for including Rosemary Clooney's version, because, well, Rosemary Clooney... Good choices!

  6. What a lovely tribute to Leon Redbone. Thanks for sharing his songs. I LOVE "Shine On Harvest Moon" and really appreciated hearing his and Rosemary Clooney's covers.
And that Driftwood song: Love! Truer words never spoken: Time waits for no one...

Wonderful of you to keep all those affected by the floods in mind. Great Zeppelin song too.

    Have a great week Alana,

  7. We were both thinking of Leon Redbone this week. Dad used to sing "Shine On Harvest Moon" all the time.
