The Name's in the Title #MusicMovesMe

March has arrived, and with it, another episode of #MusicMovesMe.

Who are the members of Music Moves Me (4M)?  We are bloggers who blog with music each Monday. If you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only- Please post containing links to You Tube or Vimeo for actual music.  Other posts are subject to removal or labeling as "No Music".)  Every other week we have a theme and on alternate weeks we have "You Pick".

Our conductors? First, there is XmasDolly.  Her chief co-conductor is Cathy of Curious as a Cathy. Her other co-conductors are Stacy of Stacy Uncorked, and me.

For March our guest conductor is Marie from Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty.

Her theme for today is "Songs with a name in the title".

Alexander's Ragtime Band, an Irving Berlin classic from 1911, has been covered by many singers.  I could not resist this performance from Ethel Merman - disco style.  Why not?

For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her, is a Paul Simon song sung by Art Garfunkel.  I loved this song as a teenager (I may have almost worn out my copy of this album).  The lyrics of this song are so pure, and so is Art's voice.

Abraham, Martin and John is as timely today as when Dion, who, like me, grew up in the Bronx, first sang this song.  Dion DiMucci is 80 years old now, and is still going strong.

Neil Diamond's 1969 hit Sweet Caroline is played at every Boston Red Sox game.  Is it about Caroline Kennedy?  You decide.  I decided on a Neil Diamond playing it live at Fenway Park performance just days after the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

Help Me, Rhonda by the Beach Boys.  Another live performance here.
I'm on a 1960's roll, apparently.  So why not a couple of more?  First, The Four Seasons with Dawn (Go Away) from 1964.
This cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by Elton John is from 1975 and I happen to like it more than the original.  But I'll count it as a 1960's song, nevertheless.

And that's a wrap!  While you are here, why not visit some other of these fine bloggers below:

Join me again same time, same place, next Monday.

  1. Great choices indeed. I can still remember seeing Ethel Merman on the Ed Sullivan show as a child. The Beach Boys were my favorite group in high-school. I liked them better than The Beatles back in the day and Sir Elton John was my all time favorite artist for decades. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  2. Oh, I haven't listened to some of these (i.e. Abraham, Martin and John) for a long time. Thanks for bringing them to my attention!

  3. Alana,

I like your new blog format. :) I see that you have the 2020 A to Z Challenge button in your side menu. I've checked on the site a few times this weekend and then again this morning for sign ups but nothing has posted yet. I guess that's coming. Ethel Merman is someone I haven't thought about in years. Great blast from the past with this old singer. :) I'm glad you used Elton's 'Lucy In The Sky'. I like his version better than the Beatles but I love the song so I welcome both. Thanks for stepping out onto the dance floor with me, my dear. Have a boogietastic week! ;)

  9. So, I am not a fan of Ethel. And, I sang that song in a theatre review decades ago. I forgot about Emily that brought teas to my eyes (thank your Simon and Garfunkle)...Abraham, Martin, and John always got to me- but after Bobby was murdered this new version never lets me recover fully. the Beach Boys and the Four Seasons... what can I say. Neil Diamond's song for me is not the sports magnate version but "Comin' to America'. and Lucy is always a Beatles song- not an Elton John version.
