On World Kindness Day (today), it seems inappropriate to complain about anything.
Please excuse me, but here we go.
1. Has Thanksgiving, for you, turned into an occasion of "should we invite so-and-so because (that person's vaccination status) (that person's political beliefs and/or beliefs about "it", whatever your "it" trigger is) (that person's exposure to other people who are/aren't vaccinated) (should we eat out?)(insert your favorite here)"? In other words, is anyone out there pining for the good old days of 2020 when it all seemed so simple?
2. From time to time I receive requests from charities. There are a few I give to from time to time. The local food bank. The local Meals on Wheels. Several others. They are small donations, more than once a year, which is key to what I recently found out.
What I don't appreciate are the charities who send you stickers (I would have enough for all of eternity, if I could even live that long), pads, calendars, and you name it. And then they send you reminders that they sent you such stickers, pads, calendars, or you name its. One reminded me that you aren't obligated to pay for anything sent to you unsolicited (that's the law in the United States) but...followed by something that attempts to make you feel guilty about not paying for that...um, stuff.
If this is you, too, I recently read this article online from Charity Navigator (legitimate organization) which was (for me) an eye opener.
I am getting so much charity mail and now I have an idea why.
3. Mice. Every fall we have a mouse invasion. This fall, it's been ridiculous. Just in my home office (sounds fancier than "my son's childhood bedroom, using his old desk, which I would have done something about if I had known I was going to work from home for over a year and nine months, and still counting) we've (OK, my long-suffering spouse) caught at least 13 mice. I'm not counting anymore.
Going to work now is an adventure. What will I find when I walk into that room?
So after I send this post off, I'm going (maybe) to be helping said spouse try to discover how they are getting into said room. We have caught mice elsewhere in the house but that room seems to be a favorite.
I'm afraid of what we may find.
Wish us luck.
Do you have a rant today? Feel free to use the comments.
Car Warranty has expired calls, even when you push the right number to be removed from the list you still get calls...buggers:(
ReplyDeleteYou need a cat. Seriously.
ReplyDelete...NO one comes to our house unless they are fully vaccinated. The mice are ridiculous here too, I'm trapped 5 in 2 days.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing bothering me now is all the Christmas decorations everywhere you look! And it is hard to believe, but we actually got a Christmas card in the mail yesterday! Please folks, lets enjoy November! It will be gone soon enough!
ReplyDeleteWe keep mouse poison under the sinks (and under the house) all year. Other than that, I don't know what to do.
Now about all those begging letters - you get so many because each organization is selling your address to other organizations!
Now I am going to calm down and enjoy this beautiful Autumn we have. Hope you can do the same!
I hate the magazine renewal notices that come more than half a year before your subscription expires. I can see a lot of people getting the mail and thinking they need to take care of it right away. I get some charity ones mentioning renewing or donating again, when I've never given them anything in the past. Wording catches enough people to make it worth it to them.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have people in my house if they weren't fully vaccinated. My conspiracy believing brother even had his. He hates that he did, but he's almost 80 so his health overrode his politics!
Mice. My old house had a lot when I moved in. Popping their heads up out of the burners on the stove, getting tails caught and squeaking when I rolled the dish washer in and out. The old fashioned traps work great for mice. Rats don't fall for them. Poison though? Works, but when they die under the house the stink lasts for a couple of weeks. You have to be careful too, in case birds of prey or cats, etc, eat them.
Yeah, I have a rant... take too long to tell it!
I'm sure I have plenty of rants. I bet those who read my blog get tired of me ranting about the non mask people in my area and work.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
I am still unsure about Thanksgiving. I invited my sister and her family, but grandchildren haven't been vaccinated and I am thinking of requiring masks. My nephew lives in a county that doesn't mandate masks in school.
ReplyDeleteI give the cards and calendars to a neighbor who gives them to her church. I have no idea what they do with them. It is ridiculous.
As for mice, I live on an open field. They are inevitable. I was out sealing the lower edge of the siding with steel wool yesterday.
Sometimes, you just have to blow off steam.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes to all of the above.
Mine? Family members who think, just because you are related that you MUST be of the same political persuasion and ideals as they are.Sigh.
Just a thought...Have you asked the mice if THEY are vaccinated?
We're all vaccinated, so that's not a worry. The only one in the Thanksgiving group who might have balked at a vaccine got Covid shortly before vaccines became available. She's fine now, but she knows what it feels like, so she got vaccinated when she could.
ReplyDeleteWe had rodents of all kinds, from tiny mice to big gray squirrels, until we recovered from that 1970s anti-cat propaganda. The first winter, the first cat was catching two or three rodents every night. After a few years as a Cat Sanctuary the house doesn't even smell mousy any more.
