Jimmy Buffet joined Rock and Roll Heaven on September 1. He was 76, a singer/songwriters and storyteller, an astute businessman who parlayed musical success into an empire that made him a billionaire, and a man that (in my opinion) created his own music genre. He charted on so many charts - country, easy listening, pop, Southern country rock. His fans, who called themselves Parrotheads, loved him.
He died after years of a secret battle with skin cancer, surrounded by family.
Here are some of my Jimmy Buffet favorites.
Come Monday is probably my favorite song of his.
He Went to Paris.
Son of a Son of a Sailor.
And, of course, Margaritaville.
Rock and Roll Heaven will never be the same.
Rest in peace, Jimmy.

ReplyDeleteIn November 2009 I won a pair of tickets to see Jimmy Buffett in concert at Madison Square Garden. It was my first Buffett concert, but not my last. He did a concert at Jones Beach every summer, and we saw many of those shows. I feel like I’ve lost a friend.
ReplyDeleteThe songs are beautiful to listen to .
ReplyDeleteSkin cancer, sadly enough. Great set!
ReplyDeleteI was sad to hear of this.
ReplyDeleteI have a vague memory of “Margaritaville” (Is that how you spell it?), otherwise I know nothing at all of Jimmy Buffet. What I am going to say will probably reek of snobbery to some, but I assure you that it is not intended that way. Since I first attended a performance of La Bohème when I was eleven years old I have been captivated by opera and classical music, and that’s all I ever listen to. The radio is set to our two local classical music stations, and I am able to watch the world’s great performers and orchestras on You Tube. That’s what I do!
ReplyDeleteI was shocked to learn of Jimmy's passing. We have lost way too many talented musicians and songwriters this year. He will always be remembered for his quintessential summer song Margaritaville and many other wonderful songs!
