Fall Fancies - Fall to Winter in Upstate New York

This is the time of fall, here in upstate New York, where winter comes and retreats a little, then comes back.  Winter is establishing its hold and its official time will come, but not for a couple of weeks.

We started the weekend having missed a major snowstorm by not very much.  We got just enough to make things pretty.
I've always loved this house in Maine, New York, along Route 26.

Sunday, my attention switched to the West Side of Binghamton during an exercise walk. You can see how the last brown of fall hangs on.
There's something appealing about these brown hydrangeas.
Green remains in spots, but soon snow will take over completely.
And, finally, the colors of the season - evergreens and red rose hips.

In the near future, I plan to feature some photos of the Hanukkah just past, and the Christmas to come.

What are the colors of the season where you live?

  1. I have the same bush/trees in my backyard, so it keeps the color going

  2. Alana, I purposefully didn't tear out all the seeded-out perennials this year, from my flower beds, because I really enjoy all the texture in the snow scene. And the songbirds enjoy eating all those seeds, too. I LOVE that red house!

  3. Fabulous photos. Who'd have suspected so much color remains in this dismal winter? Here in England, a heavy fog hangs over everything. It's only up close, I can see the red berries on the bush outside our living room window.

  4. I love your photos! We haven't had any snow (so far) in England. Let's hope it stays that way! I love the red house, it's very cute :-)

  5. Thanks for your photos! I grew up in maine during the 70's next door to the post office on rt 26. I've been living in se Asia for 26 years and was searching for photos of maine during my childhood and ran into you. Are you aware of any sites that might happen to have photos of maine, esp. during that time?
    Thanks again,

    Dr. Michael Thomas
