My A to Z Theme

I've signed up for an April challenge called the Blogging from A to Z Challenge.  On every day except Sunday, I have to blog - on April 1 on a topic beginning with A, on April 2 a topic beginning with B, and so forth.

After I signed up, I had a moment of doubt.  April, 2015 is the 150th anniversary of a special month in United States history.  In fact, some historians consider April, 1865 as a turning point in our history - the fall of Richmond, Virginia (the capital of the Confederate States of America, Confederate General Robert E. Lee's surrender to Union General (later President) Grant, the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, and so much more.  Lots of human interest.

But I've made my decision about what to do for A to Z.

I've played around with different themes.  Some people have written stories on their blog, 50 words at a time.  Others post photographs. The challenge asks that we write at least 100 words a day. This post is a tiny bit more than 250 words.

Just think - photos (and just a few words) from my 3,600 plus photo library on my iPhone. (My son, who calls me a digital horder, would be so proud!) could be another idea.

Different flowers
Places I have visited.
Photos from my guest photographer
Garden Bloggers Bloom Day (April 15) and yes, I've found a way to fit it in.
The ending of the American Civil War.

I've made my decision, looking through my photos.  My theme will be Charleston, South Carolina, with a selection of other posts.

Do you plan to join the challenge?

  1. I've never participated in the A to Z challenge but it sounds like fun. I do follow people on Twitter who participate and it is always lovely to read what they come up with for each Letter of the Alphabet.

    1. Maybe I should check some of them out. I have come up with themes for "Z" and "Q", but still have some other of the hard letters left.

  2. Yep, I finally decided to AtoZ again this year too. More YA book recommendations, of course...

I do love your photos (hope some Charleston ones have flowers, too).

  3. I love your sense of initiative and drive and your plan for succeeding with this new challenge. This sounds like a cool challenge. Maybe I'll get it out, though I probably won;t participate in it... have too much on my plate right now. :(

    1. No sense in stressing. Perhaps sign up and do two or three and drop out as soon as it becomes stressful - this is the first year I am able to participate.

  4. Hi Alana,
I may or may not, depending on how far along with my book I am. I have heard of it before but wasn't all that certain of what it entailed. Sounds interesting!

    1. it is an interesting concept - and I am amazed at how quickly it's grown, to the point that the organizer is asking for even more help this year. Maybe next year? I waited a couple of years before I felt I had enough time to participate.

  7. Hi, I'm curious about this challenge and it' s a fun thought to consider what I could write A-Z posts on, since my main topic is success and prosperity mindset in business.

    1. It would be a challenge, but you would be so proud at the end of it. I think blogging on a single theme would be challenge enough. I admire that.

  8. Lucky you've got the theme sorted. Haven't yet decided on me theme. But I'm hoping my aha moment will arrive soon. Looking forward to the AtoZ.

  10. I don't intend to join the A to Z challenge this year. I did so two years running about 5 years ago. I linked flowers with emotions starting with the same letter one year. My approach was to write the words on the list first on a notebook. Then, fill in the article the evening before.

  11. I want to join the challenge but still skeptical as we are traveling dring the whole of April. I have decided on the theme and started writing, finished round 4 posts. I plan to schedule them ahead o time. Problem is I won't be able to read, comment and interact as much as I would like. I haven't signed up yet. That is going to be a last minute decision considering how hectic it would get! All the best to you, Alana. :)

  12. I am doing A to Z but I do not think I can do a theme also. Since this is my first year doing the challenge AND my first year blogging, I think I will KISS it this time. I am looking forward to following everyone else's.
