Skywatch Friday - Blown Away

March is living up to its reputation.

Changeable.

We get mild.  Then it gets windy (dangerously windy).  For the second week in a row, dangerous winds (especially in other parts of upstate New York), plunges in temperature, and hard freezes follow each other.  Then it warms up again.

Here are some photos from March 8, ahead of another wind situation.

Right after sunrise.

About half an hour later, I arrived at work and took this picture in the small city downtown where I work.

Later that day.  These look so dramatic, don't they?

Meanwhile, crocuses are starting to bloom, unseasonably early, along with snowdrops.  Will they survive the big plunge in temperature that starts later today?

  2. There are still over 300,000 folks without power here. My neighbor and my son both lost very large spruce trees. Just uprooted right out of the ground. I'd blog about it but I am battling a bad cold.

  3. Lovely to see some blue sky shining through - I can't feel the wind from here (you're a long way away!) so it just looks like a glorious and cloudy day - which must be better than snow and ice by now :)

    1. Glorious and cloudy is better than snow, but we've had snow showers on and off all day. The wind chill is brutal right now, and it should get down to about 8 (-13C) tonight. Brrrrr.

  4. The U of M basketball team had their plane blown OFF the runway hesding to the Big10 Tournament. It's why the tournament was delayed- and they didn't have their uniforms to play.
    That's WINDY!

  7. It's so pretty. Here in NC we've hit almost 80, and then it's supposed to snow this weekend or next week, sooo ... ;)

  8. Our weather has been up and down too. We've had 70s, we had a sleet storm, then more 70s and now tonight we're going to have snow. I hope the flowers survive it.

  9. Very pretty photos! Our weather in S CA is all over the place too. From lots of rain recently (yeah, we needed it!) to summer-like temps in the upper 80's. Have a great weekend!

  10. That's the upstate New York that I remember! We've been windy here too, with several wildfires already.

  11. But that's the nature of March, is it not? I hope you get mild temps soon.
