Body Image

I remember how I was crushed as a teenager when a so-called friend called me "plain looking".  It took me years to recover from that.

I grew up in the 1950's and 60's.  Could I imagine growing up now, where people on Instagram would be telling me how I should look?

The newest blow to body image is something called the "Toblerone Tunnel" and I won't dignify it by giving it any kind of link or hashtag.  The women above do a better job of explaining it than I would, anyway.

I like toblerone, by the way.  But "candy" and "thighs" should never be uttered in the same sentence.

Seriously, though, folks.  We women spend too much time tearing each other down, and trying to think of ways to make us feel even worse about our body self image.  I say that because one of my cousins battled anorexia as a teen, and although she is healthy today, she (and her family) went through a hellish time.

That body image thing?  It can kill.  It does kill.  And maim.

Isn't it just time for all of us to STOP?

  1. This is the first I've heard about it. How disgusting. You are so right all of this needs to stop.

  2. I had a mother who constantly told me I was her little 'ugly duckling', that I had my father's ni---- lips, that my butt was too big. It is a wonder I never slashed my wrists. Why is it so hard to just accept people as they are? I did not even watch your video lest I get upset.

    1. What a terrible thing to be subjected to as you were growing up, Denise.

  3. Oh, I absolutely agree! Every five minutes on the TV, there is an ad encouraging the purchase of **** to make you prettier or slimmer or fitter or . . . Husby and I spent time on a Caribbean island earlier this year and the entire six weeks, we never saw a single ad for 'improving'. Women there had amazingly better self-image!

  4. This is why I follow the Militant Baker on social media. She's all about body positivity. It's mostly about us fat girls, but everyone is invited. You should check her out.

  5. I have no idea what Toblerone is and I'm not sure I want to. The emphasis on body image (which only applies to women, of course!) is just another manifestation of sexism and I reject it totally.

  6. It is indeed a killer.
I wish we would be purposeful in how we raise our daughters to love themselves so that they aren't easily stung by all that will come at them.

  8. Haven't heard of this one yet. Hope it will pass like the other idiotic hastags like one finger challenge and waist challenge.
