Several times now, I have traveled on the Auto Train, a daily train that runs from Lorton, Virginia to Sanford, Florida (near Orlando). This year spouse and I made the round trip from Lorton to Sanford and back again in January.
At the southbound beginningwe pass over the Potomac River, and through a Marine military base called Quantico. On the way back from Florida to Virginia the sun has usually already risen. But our train was so early, the sun was starting to rise as we approached Quantico.
Things are a little blurry and there are reflections, as I am taking pictures through a moving train's window.
As the sun continued to rise you could see the first buildings of Marine base Quantico.
One last picture.

Quantico, is that where the FBI Academy is located at?
ReplyDeleteI love sunset pictures, so full of atmosphere! Usually pictures I have taken while driving don't end up being of high quality. There's just no way to stop at those particular situations, though. Once, however, I exited the freeway and stopped on the emergency lane to take a picture of a gorgeous rainbow!
Back when I was teaching at GWU and commuting by the Southern Crescent from Charlottesville, I enjoyed many a sunrise from the dining car windows.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been known to take photos while riding in a car. I hate when I capture a reflection.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Wsshington many times, but I don't htink Ive ever seen Quantico. Nice photos.
Nice sunrise photos!
ReplyDeleteI have taken pics through a car and plane window. Mine actually look like that's what I did, yours came out beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAlana,
ReplyDeleteI think that's cool how you can take travel to Florida. I think I'd like to travel on a train that has sleeping compartments. These are nice sunrise pictures. Thanks for sharing!
Check out Atlantica's QUEEN, Althena, & the Little Mermaid's mother in today's A2Z Little Mermaid art sketch 'Queen' post. Happy a2zing, my friend!
Beautiful sky shots. I do enjoy taking pics out the window, although always a challenge to deal with reflections! Have a nice Easter weekend.
ReplyDeleteI forgot all about that train. I read about years ago thinking it would be very cool. I am so glad that you got to do it. I would love to do it and just sit and take photos.
ReplyDeleteA very creative 'Q' word with the photos to go with it. Good job taking sunset pictures from the window. I've done that a lot and like the surprises in digital processing. On a recent airplane trip I had a great seat to photograph the sunrise and shots above the clouds.

I have taken pictures while moving, but they don't come out all that good.
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI've been to the town of Quantico. Seems like it was 18 years ago perhaps. It looked downtrodden but people like it because it is surrounded by the base and thus quite secure.
ReplyDeleteThe town of Quantico and the base are two different things. I didn't see much of the base. I believe there's a fine museum there now but it had not opened yet when I lived in that area.
