Observant Jews do not eat or drink or work, and spend their day in prayer, looking within themselves and praying for forgiveness. I am not that observant, but I do observe certain aspects of the holiday.
This year, I am inspired by the example of an ex-President, Jimmy Carter. At age 95, he still volunteers with an organization, Habitat for Humanity, which works to provide housing for those who can not afford it.
Even after he battles cancer. Even after a fall.
And now I, on the cusp of retirement, plan what I will do in the next stage of my life. How can I best use my talents to help repair the world?
I'm still a bit stuck on that question, to be truthful. And I don't want to retire without a plan. That's a sure path to failure, as I've learned by observing others who have gone without me.
Any suggestions?
In the meantime, I'll be back after nightfall tonight.

I'm not sure what the proper salutation is here. I'm sure it's not "happy".
ReplyDeleteI guess the question is, what do you want to do with your retirement? Start there, and then I think your plans will fall into place.
I think retirement is interesting word. I guess we all have our own defintion.
