I picked a couple of earworms stuck in my ears for parts of this week, and a few bonus songs. But with the sad news from this weekend that Kenny Rogers had passed away, I wanted to start with a Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton duet I love.
Islands in the Stream. I never knew this song was written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees.
My spouse's favorite - Kenny Rogers and the First Edition with Just Dropped In (To See What Condition my Condition was In).
From 1976, the great Billy Joel and Say Goodbye to Hollywood
My brand new home office (working from home as of Thursday) is my adult son's old bedroom. His posters are still on the wall, including one from Eminem. I am not a bit Eminem fan but I absolutely love his song "Lose Yourself". "Opportunity comes once in a lifetime...you get one shot, do not miss this chance..the beat goes on...." I've had this on my blog before and it is time to have it again.
The classic "Crying" by Roy Orbison.

And finally, if you crave concerts, here is a list of livestreamed concerts you can check out even now.
Folks, it's a wrap. Remember, it's going to get worse before it gets better. Keep washing your hands. Be kind to each other. Thank any essential employees you know, and please do what they ask you to do.
One day, history teaches, it will get better.
That was sad news about Kenny Rogers. Thanks for the lovely tribute! Barry Gibb wrote and produced a lot of songs and albums for various artists, including Barbara Streisand. Islands in the Stream was such a huge hit for Kenny and Dolly. They were good friends, too. Did you see Dolly's touching video on Facebook about Kenny? Love the First Edition tune! Kenny sure changed gears after that. ☺
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping things will get better soon, but honestly, I have doubts about that. Hang in there, Alana!
Sad news about Kenny Rogers. I had the privilege of seeing him perform live a few years ago. He was so talented.
ReplyDeletebahwahahahaha… I thought it said EARTHWORMS! LOLOL...Goodness, need to get my eyes checked, lol. Have a great day friend!
ReplyDeleteGreat choices. (OK, Islands in the storm has a great tune, but the words are simply drivel...) And, you managed to pay homage to the newly departed Kenny Rogers with your first two choices.
ReplyDeleteAlana,
ReplyDeleteI found out about Kenny passing I think Saturday morning. He hadn't looked real well the last few years and a few years back I recalled he cancelled his tours due to health concerns but I don't know what those were, do you? He has a smooth voice and I loved him as a country artist. Until today, I didn't know that he dabbled in rock mewsic and I barely recognized him in his earlier days especially wearing those big tinted glasses. I guess it's because that's not the way I'm used to seeing him, plus his hair isn't white. lol
You stay healthy and indoors. I know it's a huge adjustment to work from home. DH is able to go into the office for now. Most of his co-workers are working from home and I wish he would do it but he prefers to do it there because there is more room for him to spread his stuff out. I hope the self-isolation does the trick needed to contain this virus. Sending hugs, love, and prayers your way, dear friend!
Nice tribute to Kenny Rogers. He was a true legend who cut across all music. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI was so sad to hear about Kenny Rogers.
ReplyDeleteSome real favourites here! Especially love Billy Joel and Roy Orbison! Thank you for this, Alana!
You got some great songs here! My favorites by far were the Kenny Rogers songs and, of course, Roy's song.
ReplyDeleteThanks for playing some Kenny tunes. I haven't heard 5th Edition in years. Cute tune. Billy Joel's tune & Roy Orbison too I haven't heard those in a long time either it's nice to hear them again. Stay healthy & safe my friend.
ReplyDeleteIslands in the Stream brigs back amazing memories. Thanks for reminding me.
