Travelin' Songs - #MusicMovesMe

Guess what time it is?  It's Monday, it's the first of August, and it's time for music!

Who are the Music Moves Me bloggers? We are bloggers who blog about music each Monday and if you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only-meaning at least one music video, please!)   Our head hostess is Cathy from Curious as a Cathy,  and she is joined by the knowledgeable Stacy of Stacy Uncorked and (last but not least) me.

Our founder, Marie aka Xmas Dolly, has stepped back from blogging for now, and would appreciate your good thoughts as she works through some health issues. The latest word from Marie is that she hopes to return to occasional blogging sometime this month.

We'd love more music lovers to join our music loving group.  All you have to do is join the linky above with a music post that contains at least one music video (there must be a music video or your post will be subject to removal or labeling "No Music").  So easy!

Each month, except December, we have a guest host. For August, we welcome Adventures in Weseland.

His theme for this week is "You Pick".

This first song just popped into my head when I was trying to think of a theme for today, and the rest just followed.  I love when blog posts write themselves right after you fear you are stuck.

This is a song from 1961, and I loved this song so much when it first came out.  This song was originally written for Sam Cooke, but it ended up becoming a hit for Ricky Nelson, a child actor who starred in his parents' TV show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.  Tragically, Nelson died young, at the age of 45, due to a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1985.

Travelin' Man

From 1968, Simon and Garfunkel with "America".  I chose their iconic live performance in New York City's Central Park from 1981

Radar Love - Golden Earring, from 1973.

Iggy Pop and "The Passenger", from 1977.  I love the poetry of this song.

Ramblin' Man - The Allman Brothers Band, from 1971.

Life is a Highway - Tom Cochrane, from 1991.

It's time to head back  to the 1960's, but let's make a stop in 1982 with this classic.  I can't believe it's been 40 years.

Africa - Toto.

For my final song return to the 60's (1967, to be exact) and a song sung by Nichelle Nichols called "Know What I Mean".

And, that's a well traveled wrap.

Inspired, in part, by the death yesterday of actress Nichelle Nichols, who traveled with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise during their five year mission to break barriers, plus explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

May Nichols forever rest in peace among the stars.

Join me again next week, same time same place, for another edition of Music Moves Me.

  1. Alana,

I hadn't heard the news of Nichelle Nichols passing. I watched Star Trek when I was a kid but I wasn't a die-hard viewer. I remember thinking she was a pretty lady.. I clicked the link you provided. It was interesting to learn more about her life. She's now gone beyond the stars and galaxies to a world far better than we know.

Thanks for sharing the music that moves you today. Your collection of tunes is an interesting assortment. Ricky Nelson had such a smooth voice. Have a boogietastic week, my friend!

  5. I realized a few days ago that I don't listen to music as much as I'd like to or should! Glad I stopped by here. I've only heard the S&G song and Africa ( which I loved listening to after a long time)- not the others!

  6. Being of a certain age, I remember all of those songs when they were new. And I well remember Nichelle Nichols and Star Trek. She was a groundbreaker and a fine actress.
