It's Sunday and it's time for music! Yes, I know I'm a day ahead of myself and my normally Monday themed posts. However, tomorrow, I will have a special post to commemorate the anniversary of a tragic incident in the city where I used to work.
Who are the Music Moves Me bloggers? We are bloggers who blog about music
each Sunday or Monday and if you have music to share with us, you are most
welcome to join! (Music Posts Only-meaning at least one music video,
please!) Our head host is Xmas Dolly, and our co-hosts are Cathy from Curious as a Cathy, joined by the knowledgeable Stacy of Stacy Uncorked and Yours Truly.
Why not join our music loving folks? It's so easy. All you have to do is join the linky above with a music post that contains at least one music video. No music video? Your post may be removed, or may be labeled *NO MUSIC*.
Every other week has a theme. Today's theme was picked from an old, inactive site by Cathy at Curious as a Cathy: "Pick songs that express fragile emotions - yours or others".
We all have been through those times where life hands us something that makes us unsure, fragile, sad, damaged. Music can express these emotions or help us through telling us the story of someone who feels the same way as we do.
Let's start with the Beatles and "Eleanor Rigby", a song I identified with as a teen.
Continuing with the Beatles, "Yesterday", a song that came out when I was in junior high (now called middle school) and I also identified with. The teen years can be full of fragile emotions.
Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nail's song "Hurt" was considered a masterpiece by none other than the song's original performer, who proclaimed that the song was now Cash's.
"I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" from the Beach Boys.
And that's a wrap!
Join me again next Sunday for another episode of Music Moves Me. I'll be posting my music on Sundays most of this month.
Tomorrow, the Blogging from A to Z Challenge continues with the letter "B".
...many artists continue performing long past their prime. But I enjoy Cash's later music the most.
ReplyDeleteGreat playlist. Elton John’s song was so powerful that day.
ReplyDeletethecontemplativecat@blogspot.com here. Google, dang it. I remember all of those songs, and appreciate Pharrell Williams, I'll have to catch him.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if my comment made it to you. Having trouble with Google.
ReplyDeleteIt did make it, thanks. I've had problems on a number of Blogger blogs, some for days on end. Thank you for being persistent. ramblinwitham
DeleteThe song "Happy" really pumped me up on Monday morning before work lol
ReplyDeleteWas "Eleanor Rigby" always that fast? At least the "Yesterday" sounded like the song I remember. (I used to play the tune for people who didn't recognize it...they didn't approve of the Beatles because of a certain infamous quote, but they liked the tune!)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these music blogs. For years I couldn't listen to sound on a computer. Now I can, and enjoy it.
Priscilla, the song doesn't sound faster than I remember. But, as we both know, radio stations sometimes sped music up so that music of competing stations sounded less energetic. I listened to this song on New York City radio, not on the Revolver album. Would a video version reflect the sped up version? That I do not know.
DeleteWhat a great selection of songs to illustrate your theme!
ReplyDeleteAlana,
ReplyDeleteBoy, I'm telling you Johnny Cash was such a story teller. I really felt his pain in his song "Hurt". I was tempted to use it today but since I'd shared it before I didn't. I'm glad that you did, though. Pharrell Williams "Happy" is an excellent way to wrap up an emotional set of songs. :) Thanks for dancing with me, partner. Have a boogietastic week!
great set of tunes I went with just two of my faves.
ReplyDeleteJohnny Cash deserved all the accolades for this great rendition. It brings s tear to my eye. I love how he is surrounded by a feast like what you see in famous paintings but it actually means the impermanence of life and that death is near. I'm glad you ended on a positive note
ReplyDeleteThere are few things that express emotion quite like music. Great selections! Now I've got "Eleanor' sitting in my head... ;)
ReplyDeleteWow! I didn't know hurt was a nine inch nails song. I guess it goes to show you how much Cash owned it when he covered it.
ReplyDeleteSuch great songs here. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteGreat selection. I can tell you that I just wasn't made for pandemic times..
