It's Sunday, and, at least for this April day, it's time for music.
Who are the Music Moves Me bloggers? We are bloggers who blog about music
each Sunday or Monday and if you have music to share with us, you are most
welcome to join! (Music Posts Only-meaning at least one music video,
please!) Our head host is Xmas Dolly, and our co-hosts are Cathy from Curious as a Cathy, joined by the knowledgeable Stacy of Stacy Uncorked and Yours Truly.
Why not join our music loving folks? It's so easy. All you have to do is join the linky above with a music post that contains at least one music video. No music video? Your post may be removed, or may be labeled *NO MUSIC*.
Today our theme is given to us by Cathy at Curious As a Cathy and is from an inactive website: "Build a playlist for us to feel what makes life feel magical to you."It is said that music is the language of the soul. So, it's time to reveal some of my soul to you. These are the things that make my life magical.
Taking pictures. I've enjoyed taking pictures since I got my first camera at about eight years old. I've never had an expensive one, if you don't count iPhones. Film photography was the photography of most of my life, so I picked 1973's "Kodachrome" from Paul Simon.
Listening to music, of course, is also on my list of what makes me "me". For much of my life it was through either a transistor radio or a phonograph. I couldn't resist this 1961 song from Benny Hill called "Transistor Radio" because what is life without laughter?
Writing is something else I've done almost all my life. I wouldn't be surprised if I started writing right after I learned to read. Some of my early writing efforts were primitive comic strips which I both drew and provided dialog for. Later on, in junior and high school, came satirical comics and even a try at a play or two. (No, I didn't keep those). In the play, I took familiar melodies and wrote different lyrics to fit into the play.
This beautiful song is the real deal. From 1979, "I Write the Songs" from Barry Manilow.
I know I was already interested in gardening by the time I was in second grade. Problem was, we lived in a New York City housing project, and there were no community gardens in those days. I never gardened until I was in my 20's.
I can't resist John Denver singing "The Garden Song" with the Muppets.
I've always been a person who lives to eat, and I love my sweets. From 1968, a song George Harrison wrote about his friend Eric Clapton's overindulgence in chocolate. Bad teeth aside, I say there is no such thing as too much chocolate.
Let's savor "Savoy Truffle".
And that's a wrap!
Join me again next week for another episode of #MusicMovesMe. Tomorrow, I would love it if you swing by for my Blogging from A to Z Challenge post. My theme this year is: Exploring South Carolina and the Eastern United States.
...what, no magic carpet ride?
ReplyDeleteNice playlist. I like Peter Paul and Mary’s version of The Garden Song too.
ReplyDeleteI love Savor truffles. From the era.
ReplyDeleteI remember those songs.
ReplyDeleteI Write the Song, Savoy Truffle, Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteGreat tunes here. I enjoyed them all.
ReplyDeleteAlana,
ReplyDeleteYou sound so much like me photography, music, writing, outdoors, and sweets. :) It would've been super cool had you had those early comics you did. Great song set! Have a boogietastic week, my dear!
For some reason, I'm fixated on "The Rain and the Park and Other Things" lately. Love that song so much, plus all the others you mentioned. So many memories.
ReplyDeleteLove how you related the songs to things you love to do. I never heard that Beatles tune before but love chocolate. I'm the kiss of death when it comes to plants but I used to like gardening even though much died I love that gentle song sung by Bob and the hyacinths. Very dreamy
ReplyDeleteEvery song a favourite! Now I feel magical! -Diane

ReplyDeleteWell, guess nobody loves me anymore or they just don't know me :( I remember when I started Monday''s Music Moves Me - 4M DANCE... Then not shortly after that it became, Monday's Music Moves Me... the Big 4M!!! Actually, I took over for another girl who just didn't want to do it anymore, but I told her if she didn't mind I'd take it over & she said go ahead, but she wouldn't let me use her name for the game. I didn't care about that I just wanted to give a people a place to go to listen to music that they wanted to hear & been doing it ever since. We were really doing good for a while. Had people from all over the world playing and then I had my back surgery the first time and I lost many people. Then I came back and I was floored when I saw all the people gone, but I kept goin. Oh well, shouldn't cry on your shoulder about it. I need to learn how to blog all over again, but I'm gettin' close to what I need. You take care girlfriend. You did a great job this week, and it was something different... I liked it! BIG HUGS & I'LL TALK AT YA LATER! HUGS, MARIE aka XmasDolly

ReplyDeleteHere's a story just for you.
ReplyDeleteYear 1954. Our neighbors are broadcasting their music (and speeches) full blast. My mom goes to pick up my dad at the rail station. And comes back home to see me singing Hebrew songs at the top of my voicel And every window covered up with paper and written messages. She asks what is written to which I reply- How should I know, I can't read???
She and my dad settle in to listen to our response to the Christmas messages - laughing all the time.
It stopped when we sat own to eat.
That is a very magical playlist, Alana, and thanks for the insights, now you can pass a few truffles to us, they're so delicious😸 Double Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend🐾😽💞
ReplyDeleteLoved the playlist! and yeah, there's nothing as too much chocolate...
