I've blogged before about the custom of saying "Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit" upon wakening on the first of every month.
Monday was September 1, and I didn't say it.
So, to my surprise, when I went outside a little bit before sunset...
Before my eyes was a puffed up rabbit. I don't know much about rabbit body language but I've never seen this before. It started to run away. But then, I saw a second rabbit.
For a few seconds they moved closer to each other.
But then one bounded away, and left me with one rabbit.
I checked on the couple of veggie plants I have in my yard and none seem to have been nibbled. Whew!
Perhaps I will have good luck this month, even though I didn't say Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit.

...our resident family of fox have taken care of the rabbits.
ReplyDeleteI've seen fewer rabbits since the coyotes have appeared. But even one is too many. They don't just nibble leaves, they will even eat the roots of plants.
ReplyDeleteI remembered this month. I always feel chuffed when I don't forget.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to say I never see rabbits in my neighborhood anymore. Like much of the wildlife, they moved out when people moved in.
ReplyDeleteWhat little cutie pies. I love watching them, but they can destroy a garden in no time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
You were visited by rabbits, so you’ll have good luck
ReplyDeleteI think I first heard about "rabbit, rabbit, rabbit" on this blog! There used to be escaped pet rabbits, but they disappeared. Not foxes like Tom's, more likely owls or even raccoons.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have good luck and peace with your rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit...where there are two, there are likely to be ten next month...

Today I learned: say rabbit, rabbit, rabbit on the first of the month. Will I remember to do so? Unlikely.
ReplyDeleteOnce in a while I'll see a rabbit.
