It's Monday and it's time for music!
Today I am joining up with other Music Moves Me bloggers (and you can join us at the linky above). We are a group of music loving bloggers who blog about music each Sunday or Monday (or even later in the week). If you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only-meaning at least one music video, please! Otherwise, your post link may be labeled "No Music" or even removed.) We have occasional theme weeks, but you are welcome to ignore the theme and use music of your choice. Why not join us? You don't have to sing, or play an instrument. All music lovers are welcome.
Today's theme is "Halloween/Spooky themed songs or artists". But, something sad is happening this year. Day by day, more music artists leave us.
Today, I'm going to pay tribute to three of them. But first, a classical spooky song to fit our theme: Bach – Toccata & Fugue in D Minor.
This is the perfect music for a horror movie, is it not? What is even more spooky (to my way of thinking) that we don't know when it was first performed. It was first publicly performed in 1840. It may have been written as early as 1704.
And now, to our tributes.
First, Ace Frehley, founding member of Kiss, who died October 16. He was with Kiss from its 1973 founding to 1982, and also had a solo album after leaving the group. (He later rejoined).
Detroit Rock City, from 1976, is perhaps my favorite Kiss song.
Space Truckin', a Deep Purple song, was covered by Ace Frehley in 2020.
Next, John Lodge, vocalist, songwriter and bassist for the Moody Blues, one of my favorite all time bands, died on October 10. Where do I even begin?
Isn't Life Strange.
Gemini Dream.
Finally, someone I had not yet paid tribute to. Majorie Latzko of The Chordettes died August 22 at the age of 96. Active from 1946 to 1963, the group had two famous hits, Mr. Sandman and Lollipop.
Here is one of them - Mr. Sandman.
There are more tributes in the wings, which will wait until next Monday. It's so sad when your posts practically write themselves.
And that's a wrap.
Join me again next week for another episode of Music Moves Me.
You've covered a range of styles here. Sad when the greats die.
ReplyDeleteI knew of Ace and John's passing but not of Majorie's death. Lovely faraway to these talented artists, Alana. Thanks for sharing and yes, it's truly sad that these kind of posts write themselves.
ReplyDeleteI want to leave a message here with the hope Robin sees this to let her know her comments isn't working.
Have a boogietastic week, darlin'! xo
...thanks Alana for The Chordettes!
ReplyDeleteInteresting to learn more about Toccata & Fugue! It is the perfect horror movie song. ☺
ReplyDeleteAnd the sad news keeps coming! For me, the biggie was John Lodge. Thanks for sharing a couple of his songs. ♥ Ace Frehley was unexpected as well. Detroit Rock City was definitely one of KISS' better tunes.
So sad that we’re losing such great artists
ReplyDeleteVery nice tribute to those who have left us.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Moody Blues and The Chordettes, especially their hit, "Mr. Sandman," of which I have very fond memories.
ReplyDeleteI love Bach.

It seems so many great artists have passed recently. I just added Moody Blues "Gemini Dream" to my itunes - I forgot about that song!
ReplyDeleteHi Alana, that first song is so powerful with that organ it almost give chills! Perfect for this season!
ReplyDeleteMr Sandman sure does transport you back in time! I don’t think I recall Marjorie’s passing.
And you’re so right - it’s so sad as we keep losing so many greats who were part of the soundtracks of our lives. I love wearing my John Ledge “Isn’t Life Strange” tshirt. That loss hit hardest.
I did t realize Ace Freely did a cover of Space Truckin! I grew up listening to Deep Purple’s Machine Head album over and over. The bands we’d bounce from bar to bar to see every weekend were all into playing Deep Purple. So it was really cool to hear Acr Freeley’s version of it. Thank for sharing!
Have a fantastic week!
