Hello Tim Tebow -Head for the High Hills #AtoZChallenge #Blogboost #MusicMovesMe

Dear Honorable Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow:
Hello.
Let me be the first to welcome you to to Binghamton, New York. I promise you it won't be as Hot as Columbia, South Carolina or St. Lucie, Florida were.  It is truly an Honor to Have you Here.

Today, you may well be feeling like you want to Hightail it back to Florida.
Hey, please believe me when I say How Highly excited we are to Have you playing baseball here.

However, I have to apologize for the snow of last Monday.  And the snow flurries of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (opening day for our Rumble Ponies baseball team) and Friday.  We are well aware it is spring, Historically speaking.  But I think someone inserted an extra March calendar page into our local calendar this year.  Again, Horribly sorry.

True, we skipped snow yesterday but Here we are again with snow on Sunday.

See those hills?  They are so not Florida.    You'll get used to them.  And the snow.  Eventually.

Oh wait, you say?  You went to college in Florida?  There are hills in Florida?  Ha, you are right.

To my readers (and Tim Tebow): today, we venture into the High Hills of Florida (what I am calling them so I can fit them into "H" day), better known as the Lake Wales ridge.

The Lake Wales Ridge is a "relic seashore" from years and years ago, when sea level was higher than it is today.  This part of Florida consisted of a chain of islands.  Due to the isolation, plants and animals differed from those of their near neighbors..  It runs for some 100 miles in Central Florida, and I would like to explore it more one day.

Much of what remains is endangered.  Bok Tower Gardens (see my "B" post) is built on the highest part of this ridge.  What you see in the picture below is near the highest point in Florida - 324 feet (98.75 meters) above sea level

Maybe not the hills you are used to, if you live in a mountainous area.  But, for Florida...
Here's another view.  Ah, that January green.

Hey, it isn't like it's snowing there or anything. Come to think about it, can I return to Florida until spring finally comes up here to upstate New York?

Since today is also the day I join with the "4Mers" over at Music Moves Me, I want to share a song that the High Hills of Florida remind me of.

Two versions of the song Higher Ground, by Stevie Wonder (1973).  First, a live performance from 1974.

And second, the cover by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

And, in honor of Tim Tebow - Centerfield by John Fogerty.

All kidding aside, the people in Binghamton are really excited about having Tim Tebow here.  I hope to get to see him, if it ever turns warm.

Day nine of the Ultimate Blog Challenge #blogboost.  "H" day on #AtoZChallenge - my theme, "Florida Outside the Theme Parks".  And, a musical Monday on #MusicMovesMe.

What is #MusicMovesMe, and who are the 4Mers who participate?

The Head 4M'er is XmasDolly.  Her co-4Mers are:  Callie of JAmerican Spice, (who has been taking a break for health reasons) and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥   And last but certainly not least, Cathy from Curious as a Cathy.

  1. Alana,

I didn't know Tebow switch to baseball. I hope he has better success than he did with football. He's such a talent and skillful athlete. I'm sorry if I laugh but Florida doesn't have hills. I'm not begrudging them of the right to call them hills but they aren't. lol We get a lot of visitors from Florida who get their first experience on real some real hills in the Smoky's. You can always spot the newbies, too. I love your post and series. Thanks for boogieing with the 4M gang, dear friend. Happy A2Zing!

    1. Thank you, Cathy. Those hills were so not hills that I had to feature them in a post. Well, I am supposed to be blogging about Florida Outside the Theme Parks and that was outside...way outside.

    2. Alana,

Of course, of course! I totally gotcha. When we visited in 2013 I kept thinking, "My goodness this place is flat as far as the eye can see!" I enjoyed my visit and I'd like to go again someday but it was too one dimensional to suit this East Tennessee gal. :) Thanks for visiting & boogieing with me, my friend!

  2. So Tebow's playing in Binghamton...could be interesting for your area. Would have been very interesting if he'd made the cut during spring training, but I just don't see stunt casting in his future with the Mets playing so well this year

    1. Yes, Tebow is in Binghamton double A and everyone here is so excited - so seriously excited. My husband, a big Mets fan, thinks he is going to stay with our Rumble Ponies all season. We'll see.

  3. I think we should retire "Take me out" and replace it with "Centerfield". it would be an interesting change for the stretch!

    1. It would make a great 7th inning stretch song, wouldn't it?

  4. I thought the only hill in FL was the trash heap? So wrong!! Opening season seems to be tough in most spots so far this spring. Little Stevie Wonder, a great flash from the past to start the week.

    1. Now, now. When most of a state is at sea level or maybe 10 feet above it, doesn't 324 feet rate as a hill? Also, there are fire ant mounds in Florida, and some of them could be considered as hills, too. (Don't expect me to take any pictures of those.)

  5. Beautiful songs and yes baseball is back. I live in an area where hills are a normal part of life. LOL. Here is a baseball post I did over the weekend: http://csuhpat1.blogspot.com/2018/04/opening-night-for-oakland-as.html

  6. I am not a Tebow fan. I'm also not a fan of a snowy spring, even if it does make for some pretty pictures!

    1. You would not believe how thrilled the residents of Binghamton, New York are. They may set some attendance records at our stadium, if it ever warms up.

    1. I used to love it. Until recently, I rekindled my love with minor league baseball. You wouldn't believe how thrilled people here are over having Tim Tebow play. Especially when he hit a 3 run homer on the first pitch thrown to him.

  9. Sending you warm thoughts. And maybe a bit of the heat we're getting today. I didn't realize that Florida was so flat, but then again, there aren't really mountains nearby, are there? (I forget that not every place is like where I live, where you can see the mountains from the beach--on a clear day.)

  10. I hope Tim Tebow reads you welcome to him. Very cleverly done to fit all those 'H' words in with your theme. Well done.

  11. My Astros are playing at Target Field in Minnesota for the next three games, where they had snow over the weekend and the starting temperature for tonight's game is forecast to be 37 degrees falling rapidly into the low 30s. Baseball players do have to deal with those early season temperature fluctuations.

  12. Hidey-Ho and Hey There!
Hope you are Having a Heck of a Monday. I've always enjoyed Higher Ground. RHCP do a fine job, but there is no comparison to the magic of Stevie Wonder. Stay warm!

  14. I love Binghampton, New York! I've been there a few times - I lived in Monroe, NY for a couple of years. :)

I didn't realize Tebow switched to baseball! Wasn't there another pro player who did several sports genres successfully? :)

Loved your song choices! Thanks so much for the dance! :)
