The Peters #MusicMovesMe

It's time for another #MusicMovesMe. Doesn't it seem like we just had one?

Who are the #MusicMovesMe bloggers? We are bloggers who blog about music each Monday and if you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only on this music train, please!)   First, there is XmasDolly,   Her co-conductors are:  Callie of JAmerican Spice,  and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥   Also, co-conducting  is  Cathy from Curious as a Cathy .  And finally, there's - (said humbly) me.

Every other week, we are asked to blog about a musical theme.  The other weeks are free weeks, including today.  I am going to devote my post today to the late Peter Tork of the Monkees, who died on February 21 at the age of 77 of a rare cancer that affects the tongue, and Peter Frampton, who disclosed earlier this week that a degenerative muscle disease will soon be ending his musical career.

Tork was the oldest member of the Monkees, who started out as a made-up band for a TV show and ended up as a true band.  Tork played several instruments, and sang.

How about piano?  Tork plays the intro to one of my favorite Monkees song, Daydream Believer, from 1967.

Banjo? Yes, please, in "You Told Me".

"Your Auntie Grizelda" was the first song to feature Peter Tork on lead vocals.  Here, he performs it live in 2015.

As for Peter Frampton, although he has recorded more recently, I still love his oldie songs, such as Do You Feel Like We Do, here performed live in 2018.

And, also from the recent past, a live performance of "Show Me the Way".

Join me and the other members of #MusicMovesMe next Monday, same time, same place.

  1. Wonderful tribute post, Alana!

I was tempted to write about the Monkees, but since I've already done quite a few posts on them, I decided to take a back seat to the tributes this week.

I'm also really saddened to hear about Peter Frampton's muscular disease. I had my very first slow dance to Baby I Love Your Way. I was all of 10 yrs old - and it was at a house party with my friends. Ah.. memories.

    Sad about Frampton, isn’t it?

  3. Alana,

I learned earlier this morning from another 4M party goer of Peter's passing. He'll be missed. Great tribute to the oldest Monkees' band member. Oh, that's sad to hear that Peter Frampton's career is coming to an end. I loved his earlier songs the best. "Show Me The Way" is perhaps my favorite. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, my dear. Have a boogietastic week. Oh yeah, I heard from Stacy. She fixed the problem with her site about a half an hour before getting my email but she appreciated the heads up from ya!

  4. I can't say that the Monkees were on my list of super-groups but Daydream Believer and Last Train to Clarksville are among songs I love to hear.

  7. I walked to school with a girl who was crazy for the the Monkees. She read all the teen magazines and I would get an ear full through 5th and 6th grades. My Mother dismissed them because of the band's name spelling and did not encourage the friendship with the girl because of her taste in reading!

  9. I was sad to learn Davy Jones died a few years ago and now, Peter Tork as well. He seemed like a genuinely nice man and had more talent as a musician than most people knew. The Monkees were a big part of my youth. Thanks for the tribute. Peter Frampton was huge in the 70s! I remember his thick main of long, beautiful hair. A little jarring to see that he's bald now. LOL I'm joining you with some Winter Songs today. Have a good week!

  10. Nice tribute. I wasn't a big fan of The Monkees because my mom was a big fan of The Beatles and she viewed the Monkees to be The Beatles 2.0 even though they were talented musicians. I like Daydream Believer though.

  11. What a nice tribute! My mom loved the Monkees. :) My hubby toured with Peter Frampton back in the day (when my hubby was still in high school). I'll have to let him know of his diagnosis (if he doesn't already). So sad! Love your song choices!
