We all should aspire to be like a tree.
Trees are patient and do nothing before it's time. This year, they are slow in revealing their fall color, alas.
I took these pictures October 9 at Salt Springs State Park in Pennsylvania. By a brook, only a little color was showing.
Here's a nearby view.
But a tree has lessons for us in all seasons.
Each year one of our parks has a scarecrow contest before Halloween. This was one of the entries from this year's contest. There is a lot of good advice here. "Be Like a Tree. Know when to let go. Bend before you break. Keep dancing. Connect with your roots. Stay grounded".
There's nothing here about patience, but perhaps I should add "Your time will come".
As it will for our trees shutting down for their long winter sleeps. Yes, I will be patient. The time for color will come.

...yep, scarecrows are popping up all over.
ReplyDeleteNot much color here yet. I did think of you when I saw this clue in today's NYT crossword:
ReplyDeleteNew York county that's home to Binghamton
I've been thinking about trees quite a bit this week. When we moved here 34 years ago, the yard was bare and we planted two live oaks and a couple of red oaks in the front yard and later some other trees around the backyard. Those oaks now tower over the house, reaching for the sky. Thirty-four years makes quite a difference in the life of a tree! People, too, of course.
ReplyDeleteWow!! I am also waiting for your Fall colour photos!! Those are lovely messages from a Tree.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, but I don't think I'd want to be like a tree. I want to take action right away.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be worth the wait when the colors come.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place the brook looks like to be!
ReplyDeleteI love the scarecrow photos. This one is great.
ReplyDeleteThursday tree love is a good theme. I am sure the leaves will turn too.
ReplyDeletethecontemplativecat here. Fall colors are not here in S. Calif., at least here in Murrieta. Some sycamore trees color and the drop soon.
ReplyDeleteYay! the colors are here. I hope more fall colors come to your area, soon. Here's wishing you a happy fall, Alana.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes -- there's a lot to learn from trees. :)
It’s Birgit….I grew up on a sawmill so I love trees since my dad would take me into a bush and talk about the trees and which ones need to stay. He hated the clear cutting that was going on and said it will ruin the soil so that no trees could grow. He would often take older roads especially in the fall because of all the colours.
ReplyDeleteLoved this line - Trees are patient and do nothing before it's time, SO true for life also. Well said that a tree has lessons for us in all seasons. Such a beautiful thought. Nature sure teches us a lot.
ReplyDeleteLove all the tree lessons you shared and yes, I haven't seen a lot of fall colors from this season yet and winter is round the corner. I guess climate change is impacting a lot of things. Thanks for joining, Alana. Hope you are well. See you later in the week.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post! It's good to know the creator of this display understands the important lessons of trees. For everything there is a season. Autumn is my favorite!
