Sonny Curtis #MusicMovesMe

It's Monday.  It's time for another Music Moves Me post and, alas, time for another induction into Rock and Roll Heaven.

My apologies to some of the Music Moves Me posters I got to late or not at all.  My main excuse is that the charging port on my old laptop gave up so I couldn't use it plugged in or charge the battery. My son was finally able to come over and make a repair but it's temporary and anyway, it's too old to accept Windows 11 so....I am getting ready to buy a new laptop.

Today I am joining up with other Music Moves Me bloggers (and you can join us at the linky above). We are a group of music loving bloggers who blog about music each Sunday or Monday (or even later in the week). If you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only-meaning at least one music video, please! Otherwise, your post link may be labeled "No Music" or even removed.  We have occasional theme weeks, but you are welcome to ignore the theme and use music of your choice.  Why not join us?  You don't have to sing, or play an instrument.  All music lovers are welcome.

Today's theme is "You Pick".  My pick is the late Sonny Curtis, who passed away September 19 at age 88 from complications of pneumonia.  He was a singer and guitarist for The Crickets, which was Buddy Holly's backing band.  He was also a prolific songwriter.

Here are some of his most well known songs.

I Fought the Law - I never knew this 1960 song was originally a Crickets song.  I remember both the covers by the Bobby Fuller Four (I had the 45 single) and The Clash.  Rolling Stone has named this one of rock's 500 best songs.

The theme from the Mary Tyler Moore show is next.  This version is the original from the first season. Oh, those 1970's theme songs, you have to love them.    The Mary Tyler Moore show is still beloved by members of my generation and many younger than me.

I just had to include a cover of this song, the official name of which is Love is All Around, done by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

More Than I Can Say from 1980- Leo Sayer.

Finally, a cover from Glen Campbell of The Straight Life.

And that's a wrap!.

Join me again next week for another episode of Music Moves Me.

  1. Please, for the sake of the whole blogosphere...not a NEW computer, and not Windows 11 (the contract demands that you let Microsoft own the rights to every word you type, free of charge). I'm not looking forward to sorting out what someone else has made of Linux either, but with good wizards I'll do it. Microsoft needs to be put in their place.

When Microsoft or Google decides to call a computer "old" and block it from the Internet, it becomes a BETTER storage device. We need to stop the toxic electronic waste, too.

  2. Computer woes, don't ya just hate 'em? Years ago, we migrated to Apple products. That was a really good decision. The thing I like about Apple is they support their devices far longer than Microsoft. Last Christmas DH got me a new computer, replacing my 10 year old iMac. That's pretty darn good if you ask me. Anywho, if you're open to trying Apple's computers then I highly recommend!

Now for your music. I remember the old Mary Tyler Moore TV theme song. I remember "I Fought the Law" from the mid 60s but it wasn't the Crickets. I guess it's Bobby Fuller that I heard as a kid. My uncle would sing this song all the time! I liked Leo Sayer back in the day. His music is still good.

Have a boogietastic week and best of luck on your computer purchase, m'dear! xo

  3. I just bought a new laptop too. My old one was running Windows 8.1 and I couldn't access a bunch of different websites like my bank. I ended up getting an Acer Aspire with Windows 11. Hopefully it will last a while.

  5. Ah, the memories! And, yes, I remember them all. I must confess they are more familiar to me than most contemporary music.

  6. Great songs! I so love the Mary Tyler Moore show and still watch it occasionally. MTM was definitely an icon for we women back in the day. We all aspired to have Mary's independence and confidence. A good role model she was! I didn't realize Joan Jett did a cover of that song. Very cool.
LOVE Leo Sayer. I just came to appreciate him more a few years back when I saw him perform on a 70s Rock & Romance Cruise I was on. He put on a great show. Still has all that curly hair. I like him even more now after seeing him live and listening to his stories.

And Glen Campbell is golden. Did you know that, of all the odd pairings, one of his very best friends was Alice Cooper?? There's some YouTube videos of Alice Cooper talking about their friendship. That was pretty cool to hear about that.

Great music you shared today. Thanks for the trip down memory lane...
