Kershaw (Park) #AtoZChallenge

Today, on "K" day of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge, I bring you to one of the Finger Lakes of New York State.  Canandaigua Lake is not full of wineries like some of the other Finger Lakes (especially Seneca Lake), but it is well worth the visit.

I am a sunset watcher, and I've found a nice place in Canandaigua to watch the sunset - Kershaw Park.  It's a city park with a beach in season, and there is a vessel called the Canandaigua Lady if you wish to take a lake cruise.  During COVID, their bookings are limited and I, personally, have never taken one of their cruises.

Instead, I watch the sunset from land when I visit Canandaigua, and admire the outdoor artwork.  Kershaw is a beautiful, clean park on the shore of a clean lake - the Seneca call Canandaigua "The Chosen Spot" and so it is.

Let's go into the park.

This statue is called Hanging Hoof.  It's informally called "The White Horse".

Here's a sundial with a turtle and squirrel, donated to the park by a bank in 1997.

A historical marker (sorry it wasn't more close up).  Here is some information about the Seneca Nation.

Finally, the Canandaigua Lady.

"K" day in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge.  My theme "New York State".

  1. ...I love the sundial. Recently we were at Highland Park and the sundial was stolen.

  2. Alana,

I like watching sunsets, especially while in the mountains which is always beautiful. On occasions, we're blessed to catch the sun dipping over the horizon while at the lake. The Canandaigua Lady is lovely. The Tennessee River runs along downtown Knoxville. A showboat used to run through the waters. I think it's a restaurant with live entertainment but don't hold me to it. We haven't been on it but it would be interesting to do so. Maybe when things go back to normal again we might get a chance to do it. Nice pictures!

Check out today's Looney Tunes' Art Sketch of Kiss Me Cat when y'all get a chance. Happy A2Zing, folks!

  3. Blessed are all the silent prayers we say on earth ...
Because they make a lot of noise when they reach heaven and the ears of God ...

  5. I feel at home when I read your blog. I was born and grew up in northwestern PA. The place names sound so familiar.

  7. That sundial is so cute! The horse looks as if he escaped a merry-go-round, what with his flowers and blue vest!
