Happy July 1. As some would say, "rabbit, rabbit!"
The smoke in our area of New York State is just starting to clear out. We hope that, in the next day or two, most of the affected areas are clear - for now.
No pictures from today, but I want to share some pictures of last week's Binghamton, New York, farmers market with you.
Strawberries - local berries are scare this year due to a partial crop failure and this vendor was selling these for $10 a quart. Ouch!
Carrots with the tops attached.
Greens. Arugula (ours bolted when they were too small to use), rainbow swiss chard (we are growing this) and Lacinto kale.
I have a leftover photo from earlier in the month. We are past the season, but enjoy this picture of rhubarb. I'm not a fan but many here love them in pies.
Speaking of gardens, we have had to neglect ours (and my flowers-day lilies now blooming) for several days due to the smoke. My spouse is checking our garden plots right now although the air quality is still not the best. He certainly isn't going to do anything strenuous.
I'll end today's post with a day lily from June 28, after a rain.
Wishing you a happy Saturday and July.
My garden is a disaster since I can't go outside. Ugh!
ReplyDelete...I bought 4 more quarts this morning from an Amish for $5/quart.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how well the plants will survive without tending. I found that was the case anyway. Maybe because they don't have the direct sunlight baking them. My grandmother grew huge rhubarb plants. I like it in pie. As the only fruit in the pie, not with strawberries, which seems to be the most popular way to make them. Not sure why, they really don't go together to my taste buds! Have a nice weekend, or try to. Make sure to have the right masks for smoke.
ReplyDeleteThe market photos make me feel organic
ReplyDeleteSorry about all the smoke, yuk.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe.
You make my mouth water!
ReplyDeleteI hope the smoke clears out for you soon.
ReplyDeleteI love Farmer's Markets! They just say 'plenty' to me! Crazy about those strawberries! Yesterday, it was pouring rain and you could still smell the smoke. I think there are few things as pervasive!
