It had to come. Another induction into Rock and Roll Heaven is underway on this first day of October.
Kris Kristofferson, who died Saturday at age 88 (cause of death not released), wasn't exactly a rock and roll singer, true. He was an actor, the son of an Air Force general, a Rhodes scholar, a singer, a Golden Gloves boxer, a rebel who ended up being disowned, a member of a supergroup (the Highwaymen), a song writer, a one time janitor, the ex of Rita Coolidge, a father of eight, and...oh, did I leave anything out?
No doubt, I know I left a lot of things out.
One more piece of trivia? He even played the mentor of a vampire hunter in the movie Blade.
So, what do I post here to show his talent? The SESAC licensing situation has made it more difficult as I live in the United States, where this dispute is going on.
But apparently, that didn't touch Janis Joplin singing (noting she made some changes) his song Me and Bobby McGee.
Hoping these next two play: Performing Sunday Morning Coming Down with Stephen Bruton.
With Lorrie Morgan - Help Me Make It Through the Night.
RIP, Kris.
...we were able to see him in concert on Maui.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace.
ReplyDeleteHis death caught me flat footed for some reason. And then today I see Pete Rose died as well.
ReplyDeleteThe song I most associate with Kristofferson is "Sunday Morning Coming Down." The time when the song was at the height of its popularity was when I was living in Jackson, Mississippi. It was not the happiest of times for me but his music, and especially that particular song, brought me comfort.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sad loss! 😢 He lived a long and interesting life and the music and movies live on. My favourite was "A Star Is Born". Your videos all worked for me, but I'm in Canada. Don't know what the "SESAC licencing situation" is. I did a Battle of the Bands tribute to KK today. R.I.P. 🌹
ReplyDeleteSESAC is a licensing company that represents various artists such as Adele, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond. They got into a licensing dispute with YouTube and yanked their videos from play in the United States yesterday. One of my songs from my post yesterday was affected and I took it down after Songbird advised me it wouldn't play. I just read that the dispute has been settled and the videos are able to be played here once again, but when I wrote this post last night, two videos I wanted to post weren't working.
DeleteRIP. It was a shock.
ReplyDeleteSo many celebrity deaths recently. John Amos passed away today as well.
ReplyDeleteI used my VPN and told it I was in Australia, and was able to play SESAC material. You ought to get one. ;)
ReplyDeleteI was sad to hear of his passing.
