As far as our neighborhood birds are concerned, spring is a busy time of year.
A male Northern cardinal was high up in a tree about four days ago, calling and calling. With my iPhone SE first edition, I zoomed in as much as I dared but this is all I got. Hopefully you can see the red dot in the top center of the tree. That's the male cardinal.
Our male cardinals are a beautiful red bird. Too bad all you are seeing is a red dot. Here's some more information on this beautiful bird.
But wait, isn't this Thursday Tree Love?
Trees and many birds are inseparable. Birds feast on their berries (and sometimes, their flowers.) They nest in the tree branches or in holes within the tree trunk. Some birds (such as woodpeckers) peck insects out of the bark.
And now, back to the Northern cardinals.
I tried some photography again without much more success. By then, a female cardinal (much less colorful) was responding. I couldn't get her, but I enjoyed their back and forth for several minutes. And, isn't that blue sky wonderful contrasted against trees almost ready to bloom and leaf out?
It's a wonderful time of spring, before the trees leaf out, and you can see the bird action - sometimes. It's a nice hobby when you need something to keep your mind off of reality.

I can just barely make out the little guy’s profile. Hi, cardinal...
ReplyDelete...you have a good eye.
ReplyDeleteI can see the red! We don't have cardinals here, so I've never seen one.
ReplyDeleteYou have an SE! Nice! I have a 5C!
I love red cardinals
ReplyDeleteThey do make lenses that go over the phone cameras. I have no idea if that would give you a lot of magnification, but it might help some. Although, that might not be worth it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to get the shots you want in the near future. I remember accidentally spending 4 hours in the middle of the work day staring at the beautiful birds outside my home office.
ReplyDeleteThis is an exciting time for trees.
ReplyDeleteCardinals are my most favourite birds! Sadly, they are almost unheard of where I live. I think I’ve seen one in my lifetime. I think he was lost...
ReplyDeleteBut right now, I’ll take geese. Because all our Canada geese have come home and are quite raucous as they stake out nesting sites and claim parks. They get quite animated when Pandy and I walk past. Much posturing and head ‘snaking’. Fortunately, they don’t usually get aggressive, though it has been known to happen!
Yes, birds and trees are closely connected. Nurture a tree and brids follow. I have slowly developed an interest in birds but still a long way to go. The perennial conflict is tree lovers end up talking and discussing features of the tree which disturbs the birds making them fly away..
ReplyDeleteTotally! I love watching birds on the trees. They hop, sit, relax and sing. I am glad you shared that. Reminded me of days when I used to hear the Koel sing on a nearby tree early last year :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining and see you back on the 8th!
I managed to spot the cardinal. Its always a pleasure to watch the birds. Recently a bird has been visiting us as we have put a lot of flower pots in our balcony... the birds have been visiting. I enjoy their sound early hours.. it adds to my prayer.
