Today and for the rest of June, our guest conductor is none other than "csuhpat1" from Adventures in Weseland.
Today, our guest conductor chooses as our theme: National Children's Day was yesterday. Let's pick songs about children or by artists under 18.
There are a number of great artists who started their music careers young. It seems that musical talent shows up at a young age.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed this little minuet when he was five years old. Minuet in G Major, to be exact. It's possible that his father helped, but this is still one impressive piece of music. Note, Mozart is only one of a number of child prodigies who went on to impressive classical music careers.
In my lifetime there was the musician once known as Little Stevie Wonder, who had his first hit when he was 12 years old. Lets enjoy Fingertips Part 2 (yes, there is a Part 1).
Finally, how can I not mention Billie Eilish. She was 17 when she sang "Bad Guy". She's 21 now and I suspect she will be one of music's greats as she matures further.
And that's a wrap.
Join me again next week for another episode of Music Moves Me.
I have never heard of Nick Nelson before. The song is quite catchy.
ReplyDeleteWe both chose songs by Ricky Nelson. GMTA.
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought about Mozart, but yeah, he was a child prodigy.
...some I know and some I don't.
ReplyDeleteRick Nelson's cover of I'm Walkin' may have been his entrance into pop music, but it pales comparison to the original by the composer and performer, Fats Domino.
ReplyDeleteCountry music fans thought they had found the second coming of Patsy Cline when LeAnn Rimes come on the scene. I always thought she had one of the purest country voices in the industry and "Blue" is just an excellent example of her vocal talent.
Excellent playlist to start this week. Have a blessed Monday.
So much talent and hard work from such a young age. Makes me feel like a slacker.
ReplyDeleteYou came up with a bunch I didn't think of. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI love your eclectic mix. Funny, I'm not into country much either but I always liked this song. The last 2 are newbies bit good. I am glad you chose Mozart who also wrote Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.
ReplyDeleteI remember "Royals" when it came out. It was like everywhere all the time. I don't know that I knew at the time that Lorde was so young, though. I did see this tidbit with my research. Billie Eyelash (that's what DH calls her) is another I hadn't realized got her start in the music industry as a teen. She's still quite young and as you said, she has a lot of years left in the business. It'll be interesting to see the direction of her songwriting. Generally, I prefer listening to other people cover her songs than her doing them. She's talented but I find it difficult to get into her singing style. Great selections. I'm sorry about the screwy mess with the 4M code not displaying properly. *sigh* Have a boogietastic week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list ...I forgot most of these and they are so good. I went for guys from my era ๐๐๐
ReplyDeleteAwesome songs! I had no idea any of them were so young! I think of the young Michael Jackson and Donnie Osmond with their high voices. I remember once I was listening to a Michael Jackson song and Daddy asked who that girl was singing. I thought it was hilarious. (They were both just younger than me!)
ReplyDeleteGreat picks for this subject! I particularly enjoyed Mozart and Stevie Wonder!
ReplyDeleteTanya Tucker claimed to be fifteen in 1974. I didn't believe it then and have not been convinced since.
ReplyDeleteLittle Stevie's performance was of course adorable, and I've always liked Mozart. I remember one of my sisters being greatly impressed by Tiffany--heard quite a lot of "I Think We're Alone Now." (And I could stand to listen to it again...great job Tiffany!)
